Lighting installation

Studio Verhaal for Harrods

In Autumn 2024, Gather was commissioned by Studio Verhaal to create a bespoke glass lighting installation for Somewhere Café at Harrods.

Unlike many of our lighting projects, this commission centred on architectural glass rather than individual light fittings. Working from our glassblowing studio in Woolwich, South East London, the team produced a series of colourful flat glass discs using the traditional cane technique, layering colour onto molten glass to create intricate patterns and movement within the glass.

From Hot Glass to Installation

Each disc was individually made in the hot shop before being assembled into a larger panel using lead. Once completed, the installation was fitted with a backlight, allowing the colours and patterns within the glass to come to life within the restaurant interior.

The finished piece demonstrates how handblown glass can be used not only for lighting and tableware, but also as part of larger interior and architectural projects.
