About Gather & Our Craft
Where is Gather Glass made?
All our glassware is hand-blown at our studio in Woolwich, South East London. Every piece is formed from molten glass at 1100°C, annealed overnight, and cold-worked by hand in small batches.
Who makes the glass?
Gather is led by artist and designer Phoebe Stubbs, alongside a small team of skilled glassblowers. We have over 18 years of experience working with glass in the UK and abroad.
Do you take commissions or custom projects?
We do! We’ve created custom colours and even collaborative editions for designers and brands. Contact us for lead times and minimums. See some examples of our client projects here.
Materials, Sustainability & Ethics
What kind of glass do you use?
Our glassware is made using lead-free crystal glass which is durable, food-safe, and free of toxic additives.
Is your studio sustainable?
Yes. Our glass is made using a large electric furnace, helping us reduce reliance on fossil fuels. We also run two small electric furnaces to melt down and reuse waste glass generated during production, minimising material waste. Our reheating furnace is double-ended, allowing two makers to work from one energy source.
Is your packaging eco-friendly?
It is! We use recyclable cardboard, paper wrap, and biodegradable loose fill. We’re committed to sustainable sourcing and minimising our carbon footprint wherever possible.
Care, Durability & Everyday Use
Is your glass dishwasher safe?
Yes, though we recommend placing items on the top rack and using a gentle cycle. For best results, hand wash with warm water and mild detergent, especially for coloured glass.
Can I use it for hot drinks?
Our glassware is annealed for strength but not tempered, so we recommend warm to cold liquids. Sudden thermal shock (like boiling water into a cold glass) should be avoided.
