Inside Gather with The Plum Edit
Earlier this spring, we welcomed The Plum Edit into our Woolwich glassblowing studio for a day spent filming, talking, and documenting life inside the hot shop.
Founder Phoebe spoke about the realities of running a contemporary glassblowing studio in London - the rhythm of production, the physicality of working with molten glass, and the balance between technical precision and playful design that shapes Gather’s collections.
The resulting feature, A Joyful, High Stakes World, captures the atmosphere of the studio beautifully, following the team through a live production day as furnaces roar, glass moves between benches, and pieces are shaped by hand in real time.
Alongside the written interview, the accompanying film offers a glimpse into the process behind our handblown glassware - from gathering molten glass from the furnace to shaping stems, applying colour, and finishing pieces by hand.
On the day of filming, the team were producing pieces from Gather’s Miami collection - wine glasses moving continuously through the studio between furnace, bench, and glory hole.
The feature captures the pace and collaborative nature of production glassblowing particularly well: assistants delivering molten gathers, glassmakers shaping pieces at the bench, and finished work lining the studio shelves ready for annealing and cold-working.
Every Gather piece is handmade in small batches in our South East London hot glass studio using traditional furnace glassblowing techniques and contemporary colour work.
