Gather x Nation of Artisans: The Film
Nation of Artisans champions independent makers and the craft economy, bringing together artists, designers and makers from across disciplines to show the work behind the objects.
When they asked to film at Gather, it felt like a natural fit. The studio has always been open to architects, designers, brands and anyone curious about how glass is made, and the film was a chance to open it a little wider.
Nation of Artisans and Aetia Studio spent two days with us in July, filming around our normal production schedule. Nothing was set up for the camera. Everything you see is real work: glass drawn from the furnace, passed between hands and shaped by a team working as one, with Phoebe explaining how historic silhouettes become something contemporary through colour and form.
The film ends with the Miami collection laid out for dinner. Every piece is handblown here in Woolwich, in saturated pastels and transparent highlights chosen for how they sit on a table, in daylight and by candlelight.
That dinner was our first supper club, cooked with Supper Crust in the hotshop. It showed us the studio works just as well for bringing people together as it does for making glass.
