Making the Miami Jug: Inside Our Glassblowing Studio

We recently welcomed the team from Sunco Quality Quest into our working glassblowing studio in London to film the making of one of our signature pieces: the Miami jug.

Sunco’s focus is on sharing the stories of makers whose work is rooted in creativity, process, and material quality - and we were delighted to take part.

In the film, our small team can be seen working at the furnace, making each jug entirely by hand from molten glass. The process begins with a gather from the furnace - the starting point for every piece made in our glassblowing studio in Woolwich, South East London.

From there, colour is introduced and the form is gradually built at the bench - a process that is as much about rhythm as it is about precision. You’ll see the piece turned, shaped, and opened while still glowing at the end of the iron, before a curved handle is added by hand and the final form is set.

Alongside the making, founder Phoebe Stubbs reflects on her journey with glass - from her earliest encounters with the material to the intensity and focus required to work at the furnace day to day.

It’s this balance, between control and unpredictability, that runs through our handblown glassware collection, made entirely within our working studio in London.
