Product FAQ's

🔥 Materials & Making Process

What type of glass is Gather glassware made from?

We use lead-free crystal glass, which is durable, food-safe, and free from toxic additives.

Is every piece exactly the same?

No. Because each item is handmade, slight variations in shape, size, colour, and pattern are part of the process and make every piece unique.

Why is handmade glassware different from mass-produced glass?

Each piece is individually made by skilled glassblowers using traditional techniques and molten glass. This creates unique objects with natural variation, rather than identical factory-produced items.

Gather Whisky Tumbler - How it’s made

Handblown in our working glassblowing studio in Woolwich, London, each Gather Whisky Tumbler is shaped from molten glass gathered directly from the furnace.

The tumbler is blown and refined by hand to create a generous, balanced form suited to whisky and slow drinks at the table. During the making process, a small molten gather is added to each piece by a Gather-trained glassmaker learning the craft, leaving a subtle mark that makes every tumbler unique.

Each glass moves between furnace and bench several times while hot, shaped through a collaborative process involving skilled production glassmakers and trainees working alongside one another in our live studio environment.

After annealing overnight, the rim is hot-popped, then refined and polished by hand in the cold shop.

The result is a durable limited-edition handblown whisky tumbler that reflects both traditional furnace glassblowing techniques and the ongoing teaching culture of our studio.
