Product FAQ's

🍷 Wine Glasses

What are your wine glasses designed for?

Our handblown wine glasses are made for drinking wine - red, white, or sparkling - and for standing up to daily use. Each one is handblown to a consistent form, so weight and balance stay reliable whether it's a Tuesday night glass or set for a dinner party.

Are your wine glasses sold individually or as sets?

Both. Buy them individually to build your own collection, or shop our ready-made sets to get started straight away.

🌴 What is the inspiration behind the Miami Glassware Collection?

The Miami Glassware Collection draws on the expressive colour palettes and relaxed architectural rhythm associated with coastal Florida living. It explores the interplay of bold colour, light, and form - creating pieces that feel playful, modern, and full of character.

Designed and handblown in our London studio, each piece brings together vivid tones and sculptural simplicity, bringing a sense of colour, light, and ease to everyday use and shared moments.

🏺 Craft & Origin

Where is Gather glassware made?

All our handblown glassware is made in our Woolwich studio in South East London. Each piece is individually shaped by hand in small batches.

Who makes Gather glassware?

Gather is led by artist and designer Phoebe Stubbs, alongside a small team of skilled glassblowers with over 20 years of experience working with molten glass.

What does handblown glass mean?

Handblown glass is made by shaping molten glass by hand using traditional tools and techniques, rather than machine manufacturing. Each piece is individually formed, making every item unique.

Is Gather glassware made in the UK?

Yes. All Gather glassware is handmade in our Woolwich studio in South East London.

🔥 Materials & Making Process

What type of glass is Gather glassware made from?

We use lead-free crystal glass, which is durable, food-safe, and free from toxic additives.

Is every piece exactly the same?

No. Because each item is handmade, slight variations in shape, size, colour, and pattern are part of the process and make every piece unique.

Why is handmade glassware different from mass-produced glass?

Each piece is individually made by skilled glassblowers using traditional techniques and molten glass. This creates unique objects with natural variation, rather than identical factory-produced items.

🥂 Care & Everyday Use

Is Gather glassware dishwasher safe?

Yes. Our glassware is dishwasher safe. We recommend using a gentle cycle and placing items on the top rack, especially for coloured glass.

Can I use Gather glassware for hot drinks?

Our glass is annealed for strength but not tempered, so we recommend use for warm to cold drinks only. Avoid sudden temperature changes.

Is your glassware suitable for everyday use?

Yes. Our glassware is designed to be used and enjoyed every day, as well as for entertaining and special occasions.

How durable is handblown glass?

Our glassware is made to be functional and long-lasting. While it should always be handled with care, it is designed for regular everyday use.

💡 Good to Know

Why is handmade glassware more expensive than mass-produced glass?

Each piece is individually made by skilled glassblowers using traditional techniques. The process involves working with molten glass at high temperatures, shaping entirely by hand, and carefully annealing each piece. This results in unique, durable glassware rather than mass-produced items.

Large Miami Wine Glass - How it’s made

Handblown in our working glassblowing studio in Woolwich, London, each Large Miami wine glass is shaped from molten glass gathered directly from the furnace.

The larger bowl is blown into a mould for consistency of form, while coloured molten glass is applied and sculpted by hand to create the signature Miami stem. A blown foot is added beneath, helping balance the scale and weight of the glass.

Made through a collaborative process involving three glassmakers, each piece moves between furnace and bench several times while hot.

After annealing overnight, the rim is hot-popped, cold-worked, and polished by hand.

The result is a bold, handblown wine glass with a generous scale and durable finish, produced in small batches within our London glassblowing studio.
