Product FAQ's

✨ Glass Ornaments

What are glass ornaments made for?

Decorative use - on a tree, a shelf, or hung in a window. Each one is handblown as a single piece, so no two are exactly alike.

Do they come with a hook or string for hanging?

Yes, each ornament comes with string included.

Are they sold individually or as sets?

Baubles are sold as sets. Other ornament styles are available individually.

🏙️ What is the inspiration behind the New York Glassware Collection?

The New York Glassware Collection is inspired by the city’s modern, understated style and its mix of clean lines and subtle detail.

Each piece is handblown in our London studio, using soft smoky tones and simple, timeless shapes. The result is glassware that feels refined but easy to use, perfect for both everyday moments and more formal gatherings.

🏺 Craft & Origin

Where is Gather glassware made?

All our handblown glassware is made in our Woolwich studio in South East London. Each piece is individually shaped by hand in small batches.

Who makes Gather glassware?

Gather is led by artist and designer Phoebe Stubbs, alongside a small team of skilled glassblowers with over 20 years of experience working with molten glass.

What does handblown glass mean?

Handblown glass is made by shaping molten glass by hand using traditional tools and techniques, rather than machine manufacturing. Each piece is individually formed, making every item unique.

Is Gather glassware made in the UK?

Yes. All Gather glassware is handmade in our Woolwich studio in South East London.

🔥 Materials & Making Process

What type of glass is Gather glassware made from?

We use lead-free crystal glass, which is durable, food-safe, and free from toxic additives.

Is every piece exactly the same?

No. Because each item is handmade, slight variations in shape, size, colour, and pattern are part of the process and make every piece unique.

Why is handmade glassware different from mass-produced glass?

Each piece is individually made by skilled glassblowers using traditional techniques and molten glass. This creates unique objects with natural variation, rather than identical factory-produced items.

🥂 Care & Everyday Use

Is Gather glassware dishwasher safe?

Yes. Our glassware is dishwasher safe. We recommend using a gentle cycle and placing items on the top rack, especially for coloured glass.

Can I use Gather glassware for hot drinks?

Our glass is annealed for strength but not tempered, so we recommend use for warm to cold drinks only. Avoid sudden temperature changes.

Is your glassware suitable for everyday use?

Yes. Our glassware is designed to be used and enjoyed every day, as well as for entertaining and special occasions.

How durable is handblown glass?

Our glassware is made to be functional and long-lasting. While it should always be handled with care, it is designed for regular everyday use.

💡 Good to Know

Why is handmade glassware more expensive than mass-produced glass?

Each piece is individually made by skilled glassblowers using traditional techniques. The process involves working with molten glass at high temperatures, shaping entirely by hand, and carefully annealing each piece. This results in unique, durable glassware rather than mass-produced items.

New York Bauble - How it’s made

Handblown in our working glassblowing studio in Woolwich, London, each New York Bauble is shaped from molten glass gathered directly from the furnace.

Inspired by the restrained palette and refined forms of our New York glassware collection, each piece is blown and finished by hand using combinations of black, white, and clear glass. Subtle variations in shape and pattern emerge naturally through the handmaking process, making every bauble unique.

Each ornament is produced in small batches by skilled glassmakers working between furnace and bench within our live production studio.

After annealing overnight, the baubles are finished by hand and fitted for hanging as decorative objects.

Released as a limited-edition collection, the result is a handblown glass ornament with a quieter, more sculptural character inspired by the elegance and simplicity of New York.
